You know that feeling where every single tiny thing you need to do, feels like such a mammoth task? When you just feel so drained? That, my friend, is called BURN OUT! Burn out is a state of mental and physical exhaustion that can zap the joy out of your beauty business, friendships, and even hanging out with your family! It’s not always easy to spot, though. Often, at the end of a busy day at work you will feel tired and a bit drained, but identifying when you are feeling drained every single day, will help you to prevent burn out. Anyone can get burn out! But people who have high pressure careers are more susceptible to it, such as people who own their own businesses (I’m looking at you, salon owner!).
Small ways you can prevent burn out
Make time to exercise
Getting your heart-rate up is, of course, good for your physical health, but it also does wonders for the mind! It can be anything from a short walk around your neighbourhood, to an hour long gym session! Making sure you factor a little bit of exercise into your day really can make all the difference.
Go off the grid
Social media can be super draining sometimes! Especially working in the beauty industry, when clients could be messaging you at any time, it can feel hard to escape. Schedule in time to spend away from your phone, like playing with the kids, or watching a film. Leave your phone in the other room and ban yourself from touching it! It works – I promise.
Schedule (and prioritise!) your R&R
Whatever makes you feel ‘zen’ whether it be going out shopping, movie night or reading a good book, make sure you are prioritising time every week to do this. Physically scheduling this time into your diary works really well! It’s all about balance.
Rally your support system
Your friends and family are there to support you, they don’t want to see you struggle! A quick phone call getting all of your stresses off your chest can go so far for boosting your mood and preventing burn out. Try to get in touch with them BEFORE you reach the point of burn out, that way they can help you! And don’t forget, you have a whole group of supportive ladies over on The Beauty Boss Community, all in the same boat as you!
Until next time, keep bossing it!
