LET’S GET REEL!

It seems that as soon as we get to grips with one Instagram feature, they suddenly launch a new one! Super exciting though as, new feature = new way to engage with clients! Layla did an in depth #LIVEwithLayla over on the BBC (did you catch it?) talking through the new feature and how to use it in a way that will help you grow your client base. As we all know, IG loves to change it’s algorithm all the time! But one thing we do know is that, at the moment, IG rewards those of us who utilise all of their features, ESPECIALLY video! It can be hard to keep track of all the different types of video on Instagram, so here’s a little recap of what the features are and what you can use them for:

✨ Video posts: these can be 3-60 seconds long and will live on your feed/page. You can use these for videos that you want to be easily accessible to clients, such as a video tour of a part of your salon or a price list etc.

✨ IGTV: These videos can be from 15 seconds right up to 10 minutes (bigger accounts like celebrities can do up to 60 minutes!), IGTVs work well if you have a longer message you want to convey to your clients.

✨ Stories: Our FAVOURITE! We love how stories are like a mini reality TV show. Stories are great way of engaging with your clients in an organic way and giving them a chance to see your personality! It’s also a great conversation starter for them, as they will be able to say, “how was your night out on Saturday?”.

 

And now, onto Instagram’s newest feature… REELS! Reels is basically Instagram’s answer to TikTok! Instagram doesn’t want its users to be using any other platforms if they can help it, they want you to stay on Instagram as long as possible!

What are Reels?

Instagram describes Reels as “a new way to create and discover short, entertaining videos. Reels invites you to create fun videos to share with your friends or anyone on Instagram. Record and edit 15-second multi-clip videos with audio, effects, and new creative tools.” This mean that as beauty bosses, we can really get creative! We can show our fun sides to our clients. Who knows, you might post a funny Reel that a client replies to which results in a sale!

One MAJOR benefit of Reels, is that every Reel you post, features in Instagram’s ‘explore’ page, massively increasing your exposure and meaning new clients will be able to find you! The only part of this that’s frustrating is that it doesn’t tell you how many of the views are your existing followers and how many are new people… but as always, Instagram will probably change this soon!

 

TOP TIP!

Instagram favours those that use ALL of its features! Meaning that, if you do a few Reels, and a few Stories, as well as regular posts, Instagram’s algorithm will pop you right at the top of everyone’s feeds!
